William Winlock Miller is buried at Masonic Memorial Park, along Cleveland Ave. SE in Tumwater, along with his wife and one son.  Miller died in 1876,  In 1906, his widow Mary donated the land for the first building that was solely Olympia High School, previous locations being shared with elementary school. The first William Winlock Miller School was located next to where the Sunken Garden is today. WW Miller was a pioneer leader and official who  took hand in much of Washington's frontier development as it was growing into a territory - priming for full statehood.  When he arrived in Olympia, he was the first US government official commissioned in "Oregon Territory" north of the Columbia River.
